Description

Antique French fruit wood dresser made around 1900 probably. Two glazed doors above with two shelves inside, two drawers below (with later brass handles) and two panelled doors with single shelf underneath. Cornice at the top and a shaped bracket plinth at the base. Comes into two parts: the base could easily be used by itself; the top could too but has no floor. Working lock and key on the top; no key below but the doors stay shut. Condition is fair: structurally it's still solid, despite having been heavily attacked by woodworm in the past. It's been fully treated, just in case: we've doused every surface, inside and out. The shelves are a bit twisted, particularly in the base. The doors rub slightly but work ok. Slight movement in the various panels but the frame itself is sound. Some crumbly places but luckily those are all in fairly irrelevant areas, like the back of the very top. We've braced the back as it had been cut at some point. Obviously there's cosmetic damage, with lots and lots of holes and some chips, dings, marks and scrapes etc. I know I'm not selling it (!) but it generally looks pretty fab: if you don't like ancient looking, slightly ravaged furniture then this is not for you but it's a charming piece with some quirks: very usable and we've priced it for the condition. Dimensions: 119cm x 54cm x 193cm high (base height 100cm)
